WHAT HIGHLIGHTERS HAVE I BEEN LOVING?

It has come to that time again where I sort out all of my makeup drawers and products and do a big tidy up whether it be skin care, foundations or lipsticks (not get rid of, just tidy the mess I have made over the last few months..) When doing this very boring and tedious tidy I noticed that my highlighter collection had grown, of which I don’t actually remember owning (oops!) all these because of the plain jane I am – stick to the same ones over. With this I thought I would pick my top few highlighters – 6 to be precise – and show you beauties what I have been loving the most! Rather than a long chat on each one and why I like it, I’ll keep this pretty short and let you see from the pictures!

If you want to read my top glow-to highlighters keep reading!

Number 1: Anastasia x Nicole Guerriero Glow Palette

Lets start off by saying that this has to be one of my favourite highlighting palettes that is purely why it is first on my list in this post. It has been my favourite since I purchased it and usually come back to using this palette most of the time! It is always in my travel makeup bag for when I am visiting home because depending on what glow you fancy on the day you have 6 beautiful shades to pick from.

Shades top to bottom: 145, Glo Getter, Forever Lit, Day Dream, Forever Young, Kitty Kat.

The two most used highlighter shades I use from this palette are Kitty Kat and Forever Lit. These two shades are stunning for paler to medium skin tones and for me give the most amazing glow. But, ill tell you a little secret… mix them both together, holy moly!! The most gorgeous, blinding glow you’ll ever see! You only have to dip into these shades to get amazing feedback from them, especially with a little fix plus, you will be GLOWING for days.

I did put this in my May Favourites post which you can read here

This palette retails for £39 and can be found directly from the Anastasia Beverly Hills UK website

Number 2: Jeffree Star Skin Frost

Okay, so I know this could cause a few controversies and this is MY personally opinion only but I LOVE Jeffree Star highlighters (and his lipsticks and eye shadow palettes ha!). The packaging is stunning and I love the hot pink colour the highlighters come in. Not only is the packaging beautiful but so is the pigment of the highlighter, as well as the amount of product you get. For £25.50 you really are getting your moneys worth.

Shades left to right: Eclipse, Regina George, Siberian Gold, Dark Horse.

The Jeffree Star x Manny MUA highlighter Eclipse has to be one of the favourite everyday highlighters, it gives the most gorgeous golden tone without being too much on a basic makeup day. All 3 of the other shades I have are great for when my makeup is on point and will create the most pigmented glow.

You can find them on his website, or even better at BeautyBay.

Number 3: Makeup Obsession

The first thing that comes to mind about this palette is… how cheap?! This highlighter palette doesn’t come out and get used that often but I forgot how much I actually love this! Makeup Obsession is a brand released in Boots selling highlight, eye shadow, blush, contour and lip pans. They sell palettes in sizes of medium and large (this is a medium palette). I love the mirrored look of the front and the detailing. The good thing about Boots now is you can pay for custom engraving so you could get your name on the front, or a friends if it were a gift.

Have a guess at how much each highlighter pan cost? Are you ready for this? £3, yes £3!! Such an affordable palette and it makes such an amazing gift as you can mix up the pans in each palette – I made a purely highlighter palette.

Shades top to bottom: Glided, Precious, Gold, Bare, Moon, Pearl.

Remember these are drugstore highlighters with the most expensive price tag of £3 per pan so your not going to expect a good quality glow.. but I was pleasantly surprised at this. They do swatch quite chalky but once applied on the skin they blend out beautifully. The top 2 shades were cream and the other 4 are powder, and the cream definitely swatch better but on the skin, the powder highlights are beautiful. I would totally recommend these for a great drugstore alternative and for the price too. My favourite is the purple shade –

Boots sell the shadows and palettes here.

Number 4: MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish

Shade: Soft Frost

This is the only MAC highlighter I actually own purely because there are always other highlighters which catch my eye first and I don’t see much publicity on Mac highlighters. This one however – Soft Frost is such a beautiful shade. Mac packaging is something that will never fail and I really like the way the actual highlighter is presented with the lines and M.A.C carved in.

It retails for £24.50 and can be found on the MAC website.

This gorgeous snow-white highlighter shade has so much pigment and you only have to slightly touch the pan to get a lot of pay off. The best thing about this highlighter is the colour it gives when it hits the light. It shows the most amazing purple hue which is pretty blinding too! It really gives an amazing glow to your makeup, especially when your in the light. MAC sell 7 shades in the Extra dimension skin finish range and they all look really nice.

Number 5: I Heart Makeup

Shade: Unicorn Heart

Some of you probably remember when this highlighter first came out, everyone needed it because who doesn’t want a rainbow highlighter?! Soooo.. of course i got one. I fell in love with the heart shaped packaging as well as the 5 different shades in the pan. It is also huge for the price you pay! (For £5 you can’t go wrong) and was totally surprised at the pigmentation when swatching. It can be found on the TAM beauty website but it looks like it is currently out of stock! …crying face.

There are 5 colours individually set in the heart shaped pan which could be used either as individual shades or blended together – purple, blue, green, yellow and pink. When I wear this I tend to get a fan brush or other highlighting brush and swipe it across all shades. If your brave enough you can wear them separately as I have swatched in the photo below.

For a drugstore highlighter there isn’t much I can say I could fault – Great amount of product, great price and 5 shades all in one! They are powdery but do blend very easily. I think the pink and yellow shades have to be my favourite if I were to wear them on its own! What about you?

Number 6: Colourpop – Crystal Liquid Highlighter

Finally, Colourpop liquid highlighters.. I recently did a review post on these highlighters with an in depth opinion, which I will link below, but these are my favourite liquid highlighters I have come across. I love the shades they are a very different highlight and in the sun look really good. They blend very easily too. They have super pigment so a little goes a long way.

Colourpop highlighter review

Shades top to bottom – Aquamarine, Adventurine

Both shades are definitely wearable, more so Adventurine but both would look lovely on the body like collarbones or shoulders too. You could layer them up with powder highlighters too, to get an even blinding glow!

I hope you found these go to highlighters as stunning as I do and i’m excited to venture out more and try out new ones. Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these and what your opinions are on them! …Or if there is any you could recommend to me. Speak to you all soon!

Love, Jess xxxx

I absolutely loved reading this, highlighters are one of my absolute favourite makeup items. I have a different palette from ABH which I adore but I’d love to own this one too. The packaging of the Makeup Revolution palette is super cool too, I love the look of rainbow highlighters but I don’t actually own any! Xx

Ummmm how have I never heard of Make UP Obsession before? I cannot believe the price of those highlighters and how iridescent they are! I do think the Jeffrey Star ones are incredible, but he does just seem a bit of a PR nightmare with his controversial comments! I’m going to check out the Make Up Obsession ones ASAP!

    Also – your flatlays rock!

Damn girl, you’re killing it in the flatlay photography game right now! everything looks perfect and so well put together, I’m incredibly impressed with your skills! I actually only own one highlight, it’s stick one from Primark which I bought just to test out to see how it looked on me, and I was actually really impressed with it, so I may have to invest in something a bit more high-quality! The unicorn heart packaging is just adorable, I’m not surprised that it has sold out because I am definitely lusting after one now!

I’m not a massive fan of highlight but I do have a few I comfortable reach for. Some of these are gorgeous!

  14. 15th October 2017 / 7:41 pm

I’m obsessed with the ABH one! The one I have from Primark is similar packaging and shades inside but my god, the pigments are obviously nowhere near as good! Seeing as I’m a poor student once again, I’m adding a couple of these to my Christmas wishlist!
