Last year I wanted to start becoming a more organised person and to keep everything on track, so I thought of using a diary. I tried a diary but I got bored of it quite easily and if I’m honest… I forgot to even get it out and use it! So I went on the internet and searched around until I came across planners (more my cuppa tea!). There were many brands that popped up but in particular this one caught my eye – The Happy Planner. I looked into where I could buy them, as all I could see it was an American brand and who would want dreaded, unexpected customs anyways! It did take a while, but I found a UK selling site which sold all the different styles of Happy Planner, yay!
HEY LITTLE MAGPIE
www.heylittlemagpie.com is the website I have ordered my happy planners from, along with any extras I need for it. I have had nothing but good deliveries from this website, and they usually take 2-3 days to arrive with a £3/4 postage cost when you spend under a certain amount – I’ve used this site now for nearly a year and would not order else where. you also earn points for every order you do, which means you can save them up to earn a couple of pounds off a future order!
THE PLANNER ITSELF
The company make 3 different types of Happy Planners – Big, Classic and Mini, so depending on your preference there are 3 sizes to choose from:
Big – 9″ x 11.25″
Classic – 7.75″ x 9.75″
Mini – 4.5″ x 7″
THE PLANNER I CHOSE FOR 2017/2018
So come 2017 I needed a new one (lots of them are 18 months so come July I needed to renew it) and last year I purchased a ‘Classic’ size planner and this year I decided to go for the ‘Mini’ sized planner. I picked the mini one up as I thought it would be an ideal size for my handbag – and it was!
This cost me £19.99.
I went for the marble-styled planner which says ‘Hello Beautiful Year’ on the front which I thought was really nice. The front and back covers are laminated which means they wont be prone to rips or marks which means it should last longer. The planner also has gold ‘rings’ which holds all the pages together and the coolest part.. they can be changed! I found once I added more to my planner the rings that originally came on it were too small, so I used the rings from my last years ‘Classic’ and swapped them as they were slightly bigger.
On the inside cover you have a ‘This mini happy planner belongs to:’ where you can write your own name in, usually I write Jessica in stickers, this time silver glitter stickers. The bottom half of the page carries on with the marble theme. The tabs to the right of the planner section off each month of the year, which with a mini planner are undated (Classic and Big planners are pre-dated already). I thought this would seem like such a big hassle but I quite enjoyed it. It gives you the freedom to move sections around to an order you preferred before writing the months.
When I first read that the planner was undated I did wonder how I would label the monthly tabs along the side as some were black. When I got the planner, on the inside of the cover there is a small sheet of paper containing the months in stickers small enough for the tabs, and stickers for the calender’s (the top half of the stickers are clear which have the months on so were hard to photograph, sorry!). They are printed in a gorgeous glossy gold colour and I really like the font too.
When you turn the ‘belongs to’ page over, you come to a double spread for a calendar of 2017 and 2018. It tells you the months and the dates of the year and is set in a way you can tell whether its Monday to Sunday without having to write the day themselves.
This is the cover for my first month – July. On the left of each monthly cover spread you will find:
This months top three
I think this is a great opener to the month, you can write a brief summary to all these points and when it comes to the next month you can see if the ‘Currently’ and ‘Top three’ has changed or stayed the same. You could also use this page to set goals each month to work towards. The cover page is different for each month and I will post some photos below of other months inside this planner down below later.
After each monthly cover page you come to a grid like this, which is an overall view of the month ahead. This way you can see a brief of what is going to happen when, but written inside the planner could be the events in more depth. You have to write the numbers in yourself.
The Classic and Big planners have a vertical layout in boxes where as this planner is a horizontal layout. I found it harder to personalise this planner as the box style layout in other planner was a lot easier, as you could buy stickers specifically for the boxes which were made to fit. I ended up buying lots of different washi tape and stickers to fill up any empty spaces and to make it mine. I also had to write in the number of each day which wasn’t really an issue, but finding how I would like to have them written was! I tried a few different ways for a couple of the weeks but I still haven’t found the way I like! Hopefully soon!
Other monthly cover pages…
